This is such a common expression that when we ask someone “How are ya doing?” and they actually give us an answer…we’re a bit surprised. Well, not so with Paul. When he wrote his letter to the Christians in Thessalonica you can tell he very much cared for them and was concerned about them and their faith. He knew the level of their faith was directly related to how they were “doing” amidst all of the persecution they were under.
His message to them is the same to us. The suffering is temporary. The calamity and pain in this life will end. Jesus is coming soon.
Paul was concerned about their faith and how their suffering has affected their faith. His concern sets a great example for us that success in a church is not the attendance numbers, but the strength of its faith.
